Model making, 4mm scale landscape, rural and industrial
I have built models since I was a child. I have always been fascinated by railways and industrial environments as well as church bells and bell towers. living in South Wales in the heart of the Steel industry, I have followed the decline of steel making in this area and have tried to capture in model form the atmosphere of the enormous steelworks, the heat, noise and fear these generated. I have also modelled in 4mm scale, the landscape I grew up in. The rural environment of Worcestershire and the Severn Valley have provided much inspiration, although I work from memory and the imagination. I have built four bell towers in 12mm scale. Balsa wood is the main material I have used with the bells collected from bric-a-brac shops and Ebay. Two of the towers have striking clocks and all the bells are hung and swung just like their full size counterparts. Model making is an art form in its own right but I see it as an extension and fulfilment of my 2D work.
