The strange and sometimes unsettling world of Jon Sherwood
For me, art is the ability to tell stories. Being able to draw, especially the human figure, enables the artist to create narratives. I am an observer of life and have always remembered people and places in detail and with an almost forensic scrutiny. I believe artists have a moral duty to depict the tragedy, comedy and pathos of everyday life and I see art as kind of judgement. Art, for me, is not a form of decoration or a commodity, it is a necessary and powerful ordering of what is observed and experienced by the artist. I also use my work as a form of therapy, and after fifty years I am still learning and chasing those intriguing narratives.
